9 steps to get closer to your dreamlife

9 steps to get closer to your dreamlife

1 Take the first step

Don’t wait until you have the perfect plan. Perfection does not exist.

Make that first phone call, talk to that person that can help you. Take that tiny little step, even if you don’t see the complete picture, even if you don’t see how you will realize your plan. The “how” is less important then the “why”. The steps will become clear along the way.

Take that first step, even if you don’t see the top of the mountain. Only YOU can take the first step, no one else can do it for you.

2. Take LITTLE steps

There’s a saying, “don’t eat the whole elephant at once ;-)” Break your plan or huge project down in little tasks and subtasks. Make sure you have bite size tasks to start with. This way you will not be completely overwhelmed. The reason so many people give up on their NewYear resolutions. There are too high and they quickly become discouraged. I often compare this with training for a marathon, if you immediately want to run 40 km, I am sure you will not start. You start with working up to 5 km and then gradually move on.

3. Surround yourself with positive people and find inspiration

Tell others about your plans, find supporters. Make sure you find people that support you in manifesting your dreams.

Also, you are more likely to commit if you have someone that can hold you accountable and check in with you how you are doing. Find support if you have a moment of falling back.

4. Let go of friends that limit you

When you grow or evolve, you might have people in your close relationships, that hold you back. Sometimes you need to let go of old friends as you evolve further on your path.

Some people will unconsciously want to keep you where you are, they don’t want you to change. They don’t know, but they are projecting their own fears on you.

5. Practice confidence

We all have ups-and-downs in life, which is absolutely normal. Don’t let yourself be discouraged by an “off day”.

Instead see what you can learn, let go of pressure on yourself and find trust that you are on the right path. You can focus on that during your meditation. I often use a mantra  "I am safe, I am guided, I trust that I attract the right things on my path."

6. Don’t let fear stop you

Fear is an emotion, just like you have joy, excitement, … . When fear comes up, take a deep breath. Stay present and step out of that emotion, become the observer. "Yes i feel the fear and that’s absolutely normal. " Call it excitement instead of fear. Allow your fear to be there and don’t let yourself get overwhelmed by it. Take a deep breath and sigh it out. Continue to breathe deeply, (like you breathe through a difficult pose in yoga) and stay present, breathe through the resistance. See your fear and work with it, instead of against it.

7. Find a role model

You don’t have to invent the wheel yourself. You can find people that inspire you. Look what they are doing, which books do they read, do they offer courses, what is their lifestyle? See what you can learn from them.

8. Visualize yourself in your perfect life.

In my yoga practice I also use visualizations. If you can see yourself doing a pose, then there is a chance you will do it. If you say to yourself, “I can not do this”, then definitely there is no chance you will be able to do this. So the same goes in real life, your mind is a powerful tool and that's why meditation is so important (more about this in a next blogpost). Create a positive attitude towards your dream.
Visualize your dream daily, visualize how your life looks like in a couple of years. How would you feel: vibrant, alive, full of energy? Where would you be? What would you be doing? You can also create a dreambord, make a collage of nice images that inspire you.

9. Dare to fall, have patience and enjoy the process

Going for your dreams, you need to have persistence, believe in yourself, overcome your fears, but most important, you need to dare to make mistakes. If you are afraid of falling, it will limit you. Ever tried a challenging yoga pose, headstand, pincha mayurasana? More often you are not limited by the pose, but by the fear of falling. Once I learned how to fall in pincha, I was not afraid doing the pose anymore. The same goes for your new project. Be prepared to make mistakes, only then you can learn and grow. Find the courage to stand up again each time you fall.

You will need to have patience and most of all enjoy the process, without getting to attached to the result. Know that in every situation, you are exactly where you need to be.
